November 08 05:02 2013

Rohit SharmaNovember 8 – India, the country which is popular amongst millions of people residing different corners of the world by legend stars like Sachin Tendulkar, Rabindra Nath Tagore, Kapil Dev, Subhash Chandra Bose, Mahatma Gandhi, Sarojini Naidu and many others, is shining these days by a new name and that is Rohit Sharma.

The 26 year old player from Nagpur has made the nation proud. It hasn’t been more than a week when his massive innings against Australia made India to win the series. Sharma’s tally of 491 made him stand apart and especially the knock of 209 runs from just from 158 balls in the final match played just at prior to the eve of Diwali.

The fireworks by Rohit on all sides of the ground left everyone mesmerized. In the series of 7 One Day International matches, Rohit was the highest scorer. More to the point, owing to his fearless batting, he was awarded as man of the match and even with man of the series title.

By smashing more than 200 runs in an ODI, the youngster became the third Indian batsman to do so. Sachin Tendulkar is the first and the foremost to touch miraculous score against South Africa. Later on, his record of 200 runs was broken by his junior Virendra Sehwag. In a row, it is just the Indian Batsmen who have touched ‘impossible’ score of 200 runs in a 50-50 over game.

Rohit jumped to rank 15 in ICC ranking for Batsmen with his performance that was beyond belief in the finals. Apart from showing best knock in the decisive match against one of the strong contenders, Australia, in Bengaluru, Sharma is perfectly up to make his Test debut memorable as well. This gets proved as soon as he smashed a ton in his debutant match and the 14th Indian Batsmen to get 100 runs in his first appearance only.

The crowd in Kolkata gathered to cheer for Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar, but his dismissal on the ball of Shane Shillingford let their hopes down. It was Rohit who gave them chance to cheer up once again in excitement. He was well accompanied by one of the budding all-rounder – Ravichandran Ashwin who also made a ton at Eden Gardens of ‘City of Joy’.

All in all, it can be said that although the nation was in a state of shock after Sachin’s proclamation regarding his retirement after 200th International Test match in November, a tad respite is given by these promising stars of the team who are able to touch a mammoth score, keeping a control over aggressiveness. Apart from Rohit and Ashwin, there are yet a few other players in the team who can impart crucial role in making India as an unbeaten country as far as game of cricket is concerned. And they are none other than Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan.

So, can we say that future of Indian Cricket is bright without Sachin in view of the fact that some promising players understand their duty well and know the importance of winning every match? Though it is true, benchmarks what Sachin has set would be tougher for anyone to break, yet there is no harm praising the young talent. Let us cheer their natural way of playing cricket. Who knows what we get to see in the near future! On the whole, it is good to see youngsters taking big responsibilities in difficult situations.
